Virtual ADHD Assessment for Adults in Texas
Comprehensive clinical assessment for adults experiencing attention, executive functioning, and organizational difficulties.
Common Adult ADHD Experiences
Many adults live for years feeling like everyday tasks take far more effort than they “should.” Some describe chronic procrastination, difficulty getting started on tasks, forgetfulness, emotional overwhelm, time management problems, or feeling mentally exhausted from trying to keep up with daily responsibilities.
For some individuals, these experiences may be related to Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Others may discover that anxiety, trauma, depression, autism, OCD, chronic stress, sleep difficulties, or other concerns are contributing to similar symptoms.
At Deborah Kirkland Counseling, adult ADHD assessments are designed to provide a thoughtful, evidence-based assessment process that looks at the full picture rather than relying on a quick checklist alone.
Why Adults Seek ADHD Assessments
Many adults were never identified as children, particularly individuals who:
performed well academically despite significant stress,
learned to mask or compensate for symptoms,
were described as “smart but disorganized,”
struggled internally while appearing successful externally,
or were overlooked because symptoms did not match common stereotypes about ADHD.
Adults often seek and ADHD assessment after years of struggling with:
chronic procrastination,
executive functioning difficulties,
burnout,
workplace challenges,
relationship stress,
emotional dysregulation,
or difficulty managing daily responsibilities.
What the Assessment Process Includes
The assessment process typically includes:
a comprehensive clinical interview,
developmental and psychosocial history,
structured ADHD assessment measures,
assessment of executive functioning difficulties,
functional impairment assessment,
and screening for overlapping mental health concerns.
Depending on individual needs, the assessment may also include screening for or assessment of:
anxiety,
depression,
trauma-related symptoms,
obsessive-compulsive symptoms,
autism-related traits,
Collateral information from partners, parents, or other individuals may also be requested when appropriate.
These services involve a clinical ADHD assessment process and are not comprehensive psychological or neuropsychological evaluations.
Conditions That Can Overlap with ADHD
Many conditions can affect attention, motivation, memory, emotional regulation, and executive functioning. Part of a quality ADHD assessment involves considering whether symptoms may be better explained by another condition or whether multiple conditions may be occurring together.
These may include:
anxiety disorders,
PTSD and trauma,
depression,
autism spectrum disorder,
OCD,
sleep problems,
chronic stress,
or other mental health concerns.
The goal of the assessment is not simply to “rule in” ADHD, but to better understand the factors affecting daily functioning and quality of life.
Autism Screening and Differential Diagnosis
As part of the ADHD assessment process, screening measures related to autism spectrum traits may be used when clinically appropriate. These screening tools are intended to help identify whether autism-related characteristics may warrant further exploration as part of differential diagnosis.
Please note that this service is not a comprehensive autism evaluation and is not designed to provide a formal Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis.
If significant autism-related concerns are identified during the assessment process, referral for a comprehensive autism evaluation may be recommended.
What You Will Receive
Clients who complete the assessment process receive:
diagnostic impressions,
clinical recommendations,
and a written summary report of findings.
Recommendations may include therapy, coping strategies, referral to a medical provider for medication consultation, coaching resources, behavioral supports, or additional assessment when appropriate.
Please note that an ADHD assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis, medication prescription, or approval for workplace or academic accommodations.
Deborah Kirkland Counseling does not provide formal workplace, disability, or academic accommodation determinations as part of this service. Some institutions or employers may require comprehensive psychological testing or documentation from another qualified professional in order to approve accommodations.
